Farm Theme Craft
I’m so pumped with my little pigs and farmhouse, that I wanted to share it with you. It’s an easy craft that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Making a Pig Craft
I found some sheets of foam packaging and I said to myself, “Self, that’s gonna make a great pig!” Hey, and I didn’t even Google it!
So step one, roll the foam sheet for the pig’s body. Then grab some string and tie it in three places, like in the picture. You may have to use your knee to squish that little sucker tight and then tie the string.
Tie another piece of string on right near the end for the nose. Then use scissors to cut around the excess foam on his bottom and around his face. Cut 2 triangles for the ears, and then glue with a hot glue gun. Cut 4 rectangles and roll and tie them with string, and then glue for the legs. This is a new meaning to being hog tied! For the tail, cut a long piece of foam, roll and glue it. Insert this into his bottom! hehe
To finish, spray paint it piggy pink colour, and glue his eyes on! Boom, what a magnificent specimen! You could make rabbits, cows and sheep using the same principle, just tie the string in different places.
The farmhouse is constructed from 2 cardboard boxes from any large appliance store. eg The Good Guys, Just go to their Pick Up/Warehouse section. Put a rectangle on the bottom, cut out the doors. Put another one on top, and tape it down. Cut with a knife the corners off the edges, then tape another piece for the roof. Cut a window into the front. I was so proud of my building I wanted to ring my builder brother and offer him my services!
To complete your scene, add stuffed animals and grab some vegetation from the garden. Now you’ve got yourself a farmyard! Sacks are cheap as chips from the Reverse Cycle garbage place and add to the country vibe!
We used this and then read The Lost Sheep story from the Bible. The kids made binoculars for the craft and we really needed them, because we had a real animal farm come and they had lost their lamb! We hid it somewhere (Sneaky sneaky) the kids had a great time trying to find the lost sheep!
